Beautiful Summer Wedding at The Fig House

Fig House Wedding

Oni and Didi threw their The Fig House wedding in Los Angeles on a perfect Southern California summer day. I met this couple at a wedding of their friends that I also photographed the year prior.  I was thrilled that they had chose this venue, as The Fig House is easily one of my favorite venues in Los Angeles.

The gathering on this day was everything the two brides wanted in a wedding - a low stress celebration with the people they care about as they start this next chapter in their lives, emphasis on the low stress. The couple picked a few small projects to DIY, but chose the Fig House partly because of how gorgeous the space is naturally. A few simple touches made it their own.

The contemporary art deco space is a show stopping backdrop for any event, but especially a wedding. Oni and Didi chose simple textured greenery and minimal deep, rich florals to balance Oni’s love of classic simple design and Didi’s love of color. Knowing that they didn’t want typical wedding flowers, they chose a unique purple artichoke for their centerpieces at the LA flower mart the day before the wedding, accented with peonies, ranunculus, leucadendron, and eucalyptus. A custom hexagon arch, designed by one of the brides, framed the couple as they took their vows.  Additionally, the space has some really fun, colorful furniture that lends to beautiful portraits for the couple as well as larger wedding parties.

A dear friend playing the piano welcomed guests, and Didi’s custom playlist set the stage for the emotional ceremony.

How the couple met

It was wonderful to watch these two wed. They began their journey on OK Cupid of all places, "the most unexciting world of online dating," in their own words. Didi had given herself a limit that she would go on three dates before deleting her account - lucky for both of them, Oni was her third date! Sounds like fate to me :)

My favorite thing about The Fig House

What The Fig House is really loved for, in addition to the modern art deco design, the jaw dropping stained glass windows, the rotating curated art pieces throughout the venue, the lush green outdoor urban garden, and it’s super convenient location between Downtown LA and Pasadena, is definitely the FOOD. Who doesn’t love exceptional food? I’ve been to a lot of wedding venues over the years, and I’ve never seen anything that comes close to the roomforty catering at The Fig House, hands down. Each course was not only delicious, but was designed to be part of the entertainment. Wedding guests were blown away with all the little touches that made each surprisingly creative course stand out, from the “gutter nachos” appetizer they offer to soup poured before the guests eyes through to the “campfire s’mores” with real smoke for dessert. As roomforty describes their approach, "Transforming food from its farm habitat to a plated presentation is what we love doing every day. We present each dish with a keen awareness of color, texture, balance and rhythm - whether a high concept tasting menu or a casual backyard barbeque."

A fiery surprise

Oni & Didi didn’t plan for a big surprise during their reception, but with unbelievable luck, towards the end of dinner and just before the dance party began, huge fireworks lit up the sky above The Fig House. The location in adjacent to downtown LA isn’t too far from Dodger Stadium (don’t worry, it’s not too close either), and it looks like LA won that night! It was such a nice surprise for the brides and their guests. So if you’re considering a wedding at The Fig House, I recommend picking a night when the Dodgers are playing at home ;)

A parting gift that keeps on giving

As one last little touch, the bride’s chose something a little practical and a little fun to give away to their guests. Custom matchboxes with the date of their wedding on one side and “Our Greatest Adventure” on the other were perfect, and the best part is that they still have a stash around the house to remind them daily of the perfect day that adventure began.

The Fig House can accommodate wedding parties of up to 250 guests for a seated dinner and up to 450 guests for standing cocktail parties, but can also transform into an intimate setting for smaller parties of under 100 guests. They are currently offering packages for Outdoor Micro Weddings for 25-50 guests through July 2021 with all the safety measures in place to hold your dream wedding without having to wait!
